How to create a grid to scale on a floor plan?

How to create a grid to scale on a floor plan?

Use the Visio floor plan template to draw floor plans for individual rooms or entire floors of your building, including wall structure, building core and electrical symbols.

Here is an example of a completed floor plan.

Start a new floor plan

  1. In the Categories list, click on the Floor Cards and Plans category.

  2. Click on Floor Plan, then on Create.

Activate the grid to improve it with scale and precision

You may want the grid to be visible in the drawing area to help you set up and scale the objects carefully:

  • In the toolbar tape, select Show> grid.

A fixed grid can be useful in floor plans and maps, where you still want the grid to display the same measurement. To correct the grid :

  1. In the toolbar tape, select View.

  2. In the right corner of the Show group, select the “Other” arrow .

  3. In the dialog box, enter the minimum required spacing between the lines for each axis. The grid will keep a fixed perspective throughout the design process, regardless of the zoom level.

Create the exterior structure of the walls

  1. From the Murs, structural work and structure template, drag a coin shape onto the drawing page.

  2. Resize the room shape by dragging the control and selection hands on individual walls.

Use of wall shapes

  1. From the Murs, structural work and structure template, drag one of the exterior wall shapes onto the drawing page.

  2. Continue to draw the outside using the following options:

    • To resize the walls, drag a finishing point.

    • Right-click on wall shapes to define options.

    • Drag a end point from one wall to another.

The endpoints are highlighted when the walls are glued. Intersections between walls automatically adjust.

Create the interior structure of the walls

  1. In the Murs, structural work and structure template, drag wall shapes onto the drawing page by positioning them inside the external structure.

  2. Continue to draw the interior using these options:

    • To resize the walls, drag a finishing point.

    • Right-click on a wall to set options.

    • Drag a end point from one wall to another.

Add doors and windows

  • From the Murs, structural work and structure template, drag door and window shapes onto the walls.

Doors and windows automatically rotate to line up and stick to the wall. They also take the thickness of the wall and move with it when you reposition it.

Add other structural elements

  • From the Murs, structural work and structure template, drag structural shapes, for example columns, onto the drawing page.

  • In the Construction template, drag construction forms such as stairs to the drawing page.

Add electrical symbols and dimension lines

  1. In the Electricity and Telecommunications template, drag wall switches, sockets and other wall installations onto the wall shapes. Release the mouse button when a fatty square appears, which indicates that the symbol is stuck to the wall. Wall installations automatically rotate to line up and stick to the wall

Dimension traits for walls

  1. Right-click on a wall, then click Add A dimension.

  2. Reposition the dimension lines and the text by dragging a control handle.

If you want to re-dimension a wall after adding a dimension to it, select the dimension shape, type the dimension of your choice, then click immediately, moving away from the dimension shape.

Insert a floor plan of CAD

  1. Under the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click on Drawing CAO

  2. In the Insert AutoCAD drawing dialog box, select the CAD file of your choice, then click Open.

  3. To accept the size and location of the CAD drawing, click OK

After inserting the drawing, you can resize it, modify its scale or move it. You can also lock the layer in the CAD drawing to avoid accidental modification if you create a plan over it.

Save as a DWG file

DWG files are the standard file type for floor plans that can be read by computer-aided design programs. They contain additional metadata, such as room numbers, which other programs such as Microsoft Search can use to design room graphics.

  1. Under the File tab, select Save> Browse.

  2. Modify the Save As type in AutoCad (.dwg) drawing.
